Being a lover of the fine British tradition of afternoon tea, I find myself indulging in tea and cake perhaps a little too often.
To justify my decadence, I’ve put together a list of recommendations for afternoon tea in Manchester, together with links to my reviews.
I plan to update the list each time I try somewhere new, and to tempt you to pop back occasionally I’ve made suggestions about where I might be heading next.
Where to go
Sculpture Hall Café, Manchester Town Hall
The low prices are by no means an indicator of the quality of afternoon tea at the Town Hall. Relax and enjoy fabulous food in the decadent surroundings of one of Manchester’s most magnificent buildings.
Afternoon tea: £11.00 per person
Champagne Afternoon Tea: £18.95 per person (served with 1/4 bottle of champagne)
Richmond Tea Rooms
An Alice in Wonderland styled delight; if you’re lucky, nab a spot in the conservatory. With mismatched china, an exclusive Richmond Tea blend and the largest scones you will ever see, this is a wonderful place to enjoy afternoon tea.
Prices from the Alice Tea: £6.50
The Richmond Tea: £23.50

King Street Townhouse
An amazing afternoon tea in luxurious surroundings. Perfect for a celebration, or for those occasions when you need no excuse to treat yourself.
Ladies Afternoon Tea: £22.50 per person
Champagne Afternoon Tea: £28.50 per person
Airyfairy cupcake boutique, Didsbury
A little out of town but worth a visit for the beautiful array of cupcakes on offer and the vintage surroundings. I’ve not tried the afternoon tea but I did love the cupcakes.
Afternoon Tea: £15.00 per person
And The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon, West Didsbury
It’s such a treat to be able to personalise your menu and it’s a lovely touch that makes this afternoon tea stand out amongst the oh so many now available in Manchester.
Afternoon Tea: £14.50 per person
Where to go next

Look out for my reviews just as soon as I try them out. If you visit before me, or have any recommendations of your own, let me know in the comments below.
The Raddison afternoon tea was perfect included with a Manchester tour of hotel and history cost £19
Ooh I went to the Raddison for my hen do – it is a good one!
