Bill’s is an all day eatery, which started life as a small greengrocer in East Sussex. Now there are restaurants all over the country.
After getting rather wet whilst watching the Chinese Dragon Parade, we stumbled across the Manchester branch, which looked like it would be a nice place to dry out.
Turns out we were right. Shortly after we sat down, a giant pot of tea and a coffee arrived, so we could warm our hands whilst perusing the menu.
I opted for a Halloumi and Hummus burger. It was absolutely delicious. The halloumi, which can easily be overcooked, was perfect. With red peppers, yoghurt and sweet chilli sauce to stop it being dry, I could have eaten it again – if I hadn’t been so full.
The boy chose the Duck Pie, which was a hearty, Shepherd’s Pie – esq meal. A bit meaty for my taste but he loved it.
There were a few minor hiccups with the service. We had to remind the waiter to bring the water he had offered and our food was put down so quickly that I didn’t get the chance to ask for ketchup. No-one came over to check up on us after the food was served so I had to eat my chips plain. Not enough to stop me thinking about going again mind.
You know that I love having things to look at in restaurants and this one did not disappoint. With a feel of it’s greengrocer roots there are shelves stacked with jams, chutneys and juices to take home.
The bar displays a wide selection of wines and the cocktail menu is full of greengrocery sounding tipples.
They also serve afternoon tea between 2.30 and 5.30 pm, so I will be adding it to my list and returning sometime soon.
