One of my 20-something friends told me recently that I am a proper grown up because I make jams and chutneys. I dread to think what she’d say if she learned that I had just finished making mixed tomato chutney to use up the green tomatoes leftover from this year’s home grown crop.
I use Nigel Slater’s recipe because, like so many of his recipes, it’s easy to follow, no fuss, and works out well every time.
So, in the interests of loving food and hating waste, I thought I’d share some pictures from my cosy morning making chutney while the dregs of Hurricane Gonzalo batter what’s left of the tomato plants.
