The Mancorialist exhibition launches at Kosmonaut

One of the best things about living in Manchester is the variety of things to see and do. Events and launch parties take place every night of the week; the challenge is to keep up with them all.

Last night, Northern Quarter bar, Kosmonaut, kicked off a month long exhibition of photographs from The Mancorialist.

Believing that the people of Manchester capture the true spirit of the city, The Mancorialist, who strives to maintain anonymity, shares the work via a blog of the same name.

The Mancorialist

Established in 2012 and now exceeding 1000 photographs, the project reflects the diversity of Manchester’s unique culture, which is what attracted my attention.

A selection of images are on display in Kosmonaut until 28 June 2015 and it’s well worth heading down to have a look. They are guaranteed to bring a smile to your face as you wonder how they came about. Surely The Mancorialist revealed his / her identity to the subjects???

The Mancorialist provoked curiosity by posting from the event via Facebook and Twitter. People embraced the ‘game’ suggesting that they were The Mancorialist, which for the real deal, probably helped to maintain his cover.

To celebrate the launch, leading Manchester stylists and bloggers were challenged to take inspiration from the photographs and style models using pre-loved clothing provided by Goodstock. The fashion side of the event was happening independently at the end of the room but photos of the ‘looks’ have now been shared on Kosmonaut’s Facebook page. You might even win dinner for 2 at the bar and a Goodstock goody bag if you tweet them your favourite, so make sure you check them out.

If you want to have a proper look at the photographs, I’d recommend visiting early in the evening when the bar is likely to be fairly quiet. Otherwise, be prepared to lean over people to see them properly.

Make sure you have an ice cold glass of prosecco while you’re there!

Charity shopping with a difference; it’s a “creative shopping space for the cash-strapped and fashion conscious”. All money spent in store is donated to the national youth charity, vInspired, which helps 14-25 year olds gain life skills through volunteering.
